Zomprom 2011 is right around the corner this Friday night and we are going to have a wicked good time set up for you! Just a reminder, we will be selling RAFFLE TICKETS and Non alcoholic drinks and some goodies, so bring a little extra cash! Remember, all the proceeds go to Planned Parenthood of Olympia and the Thurston County Food Bank!!

Capital City Pride 2011

Hey everyone! Capital city pride is coming up and we have been invited to participate in the parade! We have a banner being made for us that says "Olympia Zombie Association Lavender CORPSe. We're here, we're undead, get used to it!" SO.... I would like to gather up as many of you as possible who are interested, put on some purple t-shirts and get our faces zombied up to walk! PLEASE come along and join in the fun! It's been far too long since we have had a large scale zombie walk so this is a great opportunity! We will be meeting at the capital steps on Sunday, June 12 around 10:30am to gather then do the walk down Capital Way! Look for the purple OZA banner! The U.S. Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of a group of Minneapolis zombies who had filed a federal lawsuit charging they were wrongfully arrested while protesting mindless consumerism in 2006. Police said they arrested the six lurching protesters because they thought they were carrying "simulated weapons of mass destruction," which turned out to be portable sound systems for a Zombie Dance Party.

Prom typically is a glamorous occasion — and if it’s still glamorous when it’s a zombie prom, it’s glamorous in a whole new way. “Just because you’re dead doesn’t mean you don’t want to look good,” said Dave Beacham of Olympia. He and his wife, Karen Beacham, have been working for the past few weeks on their outfits, hunting at thrift shops and pondering makeup choices.“You have to cultivate your zombie look,” he said. “You have to let your corsage wilt.” The prom, set for Saturday, is the latest creepy caper for the Olympia Zombie Association, the people who brought you the Zombie Walk in August. The event will include dancing, a DJ, a cash bar and, most likely, a performance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance. It’s a fundraiser for the Thurston County Food Bank.

“I’ve been interested in zombies for so long that I can’t even remember how I got hooked on them,” said Nellie Russell of Olympia, who with her partner Bobby Goldsmith is the brains (the brain-eating brains?) behind the association. “I like zombie games and zombie movies.” But she’s not the only one. “Zombies have really made a forward move in society,” Beacham said. And Saturday, they’ll be making a move on prom night. “Put on your pretty dress and your rotting flesh,” the association’s Web site advises. The dressed-up zombies can even get their photos taken at Zomprom. “A local photographer is going to set up a photo booth in the hallway so it’s more like a prom,” Russell said.

Calling zombie enthusiasts of all ages! The time has come to dance the night away at Olympia’s first Zomprom!!! This is more than just a great chance to get dressed up and dance your flesh off, it is a chance to help the local food bank. We will be collecting food for the Thurston County Food Bank since this is the time of year that so many people can really use the help.

Tickets are $8 dollars with a food donation!! $10 dollars if you don’t feel like contributing.

Advanced tickets will be going on sale October 1st at the Urban Onion (116 Legion Way SE Downtown Olympia). You will also be able to buy tickets at the door, but we can’t guarantee there will be tickets left so bring your food donation and come on down to the Urban Onion to pick up your ticket as soon as they go on sale! We have a great party for you with DJs and dancing, photography and even a bar for you those that are 21 and up! So get your on pretty dress and your rotting flesh and come on down to join us! If you’re lucky, you may even get a special live performance from the Thrill the World Olympia group!

Zombie Photo Scavenger Hunt

Hello Zombies! It’s time for our next big zombie event! Through the month of September we will be holding a Zombie picture scavenger hunt. Earn points by getting as many of the pictures listed below in your zombie getup. The person with the most points wins!

CONTEST RULES:

• Pictures must be labeled according to the scavenger hunt list below so we can easily identify them to calculate your points

• When you submit your pictures, please provide your contact information, i.e. name, email, phone, and/or street address

• All photos must be new and original.
(No pictures from the Zombie Walk 2009)

• Submit all of your pictures to nellie@zombiewalkolympia.com

• Submissions are due on or before SEPTEMBER 30, 2009 BY MIDNIGHT
We will calculate points and chose the winners in early October. The top 3 individuals will be notified and receive a ZOMBIE gift basket from OZA! Plus, everyone’s pictures will be featured on the website!

Zombie Walk Olympia 2009

We had an amazing turnout for our first ever Zombie Walk Olympia!! We had close to 200 undead walking the streets of downtown Olympia! Plus a handful of zombie hunters, anti-zombie protesters, and a huge number of community spectators who lined the streets and sidewalks of our parade route!! Thanks to everyone who came and participated!! We at the Olympia Zombie Association are very much looking forward to our future events!! The next few things we have coming up are a zombie photo scavenger hunt in September and Zomprom, our formal zombie ball/food bank fundraiser in October! HOW TO LOOK LIKE A ZOMBIE FOR CHEAP!

Fake Flesh

You'll need: Flour, Corn Starch, White Glue (elmers Glue works great)

Steps:

1. Mix together equal parts of flour and corn starch

2. Add glue and mix until you get a doughy substance

3. Roll out this dough to end up with a slab of 'skin'

I used this mixture for our Lakefair Zombie Make-up and it works great.

I you would like to practice a little bit before Zombie walk i recommend mixing it until it is about the same consistancy as pancake batter.

1 Half teaspoon of corn starch and 1 half teaspoon of flower is enough to do Two faces.

7 Steps to great zombie makeup:

1) Mix your flour, corn starch, and glue to a pancake batter like substance. (adding 2 drops yellow food coloring, 1 drop red food coloring will give it a very deathly look)

2) Apply a thin layer to the area you would like to make injuries, or whatever it is you are going to do.

3) Apply a single ply of toilet paper (keeping it within the boundaries of the pre-applyed mixture), then apply another layer of the flesh mixture.

4) Use a hair drier, or just let dry. Only let it dry partially. Now you can pull back parts of the TP and it will make a very realist flesh wound.

5) after you are satisfied with your wounds, use a hair drier to dry it thuroughly.

6) Now you can apply your make-up and paint. A nice foundation followed by White, Green, and black acrillic paint makes for a dirty, rotting look.

7) finally apply fake blood generously!!!!!!!!

(mix corn syrup with red food coloring to make a realistic blood. Add a drop of green if you want it to be a little darker, like rigamortous has taken over)

PLAY AROUND WITH IT AND HAVE FUN!!!!!
